biography
early life

cain went college @ university of virginia , graduate school in california. during time, helped out friend programming card game named grand slam bridge cybron corporation released in 1986. in 1989, received master’s degree in computer science @ university of california, irvine.


interplay entertainment

began freelance programmer interplay worked on fantasy role-play editor bard s tale construction set. after finishing game in 1991, employed full-time @ interplay. first time worked leonard boyarsky, freelance artist @ time, designer , programmer on business simulator rags riches: financial market simulation released in 1993.


in 1994 started couple of months employee working on game later become post-apocalyptic crpg game fallout. lay out basic concept based on gurps system , began programming isometric game engine. took on producer role thomas r. decker had supervise multiple other projects @ time. development cycle of 3 , half years fallout released in 1997. during time programming consultant on stonekeep (1995) , helped out coding star trek: starfleet academy (1997).


before leaving interplay form own company in january 1998, wrote main story arc helping designing den area of fallout 2.

after forming troika games fellow interplay workers leonard boyarsky , jason d. anderson in 1998, worked project leader , lead programmer on arcanum: of steamworks , magick obscura steampunk/fantasy rpg game sierra on-line, inc. released in 2001.


his next game reunited him thomas r. decker, original fallout producer. project leader , lead designer produces within 20 months dungeons & dragons game temple of elemental evil publisher atari in 2003. while loved making game disappointed did not turn out wanted be.


he helped out programming last troika game, vampire: masquerade – bloodlines, horror rpg activision in 2004. worked on post-apocalyptic roleplay game couldn t convince publisher fund. consequence had lay off employees in late 2004 , shut down troika games in february 2005.


carbine studios

he joined programming director @ carbine studios working on fantasy mmo game ncsoft. promoted design director in october 2007. cain left carbine studios in july 2011.


obsidian entertainment

tim cain joined obsidian entertainment senior programmer. worked on pillars of eternity, funded through kickstarter.
