in 1994, jackson lee challenged four-term incumbent u.s. congressman craig washington in democratic primary. washington had come under fire opposing several projects have benefited houston area. jackson lee defeated washington in rout, taking 63% washington s 37%. victory tantamount election in heavily democratic, black-majority district. in general election, defeated republican nominee jerry burley 73%-24%.


1996-2008

during time period, jackson lee never challenged in democratic primary. won re-election during time @ least 76% of vote.


2010

for first time in congressional career, jackson lee challenged in democratic primary; opponents houston city councilmember jarvis johnson , sean roberts. defeated them 67%-28%-5%.


it reported in october 2010 jackson lee “asking department of justice investigate whether tea party groups intimidating black , hispanic voters in district.” requested attorney general eric holder send poll monitors make sure local group wasn t stopping people voting.


she won general election 70 percent of vote, lowest winning percent of career.


2012

in 2012, jackson lee not challenged in democratic primary , won general election 75 percent of ballots cast.


2016

four republicans competed in march 1 primary election right challenge jackson lee in november 8 general election. lori bartley, 5,679 votes (33.7 percent), led field , faces runoff on april 24 second-placed contender, reggie gonzales, drew 5,578 votes (33.1 percent). 2 other contenders, stronger of whom sharon joy fisher 4,405 votes (26.1 percent), held remainder of ballots cast. bartley won nomination on gonzalez, 58 42 percent.
