carver joined ranks of western figures embellished frontier credentials writing books. in 1878 published book, life of dr. wm. f. carver of california: champion rifle shot of world, contains entirely fictional versions of life includes extracts press coverage of first shooting tour across country.


on august 20, 1878, while in new haven, connecticut, carver married josephine dailey, whom had met on previous trip. little known marriage, carver s biographer mentions josephine in several brief references describing first few years following marriage. appears marginal presence in carver s life throughout years showman, , apparently later separated. known carvers had 2 children, al , lorena, both of whom involved in father s diving horse act.
