in august 1996, former chairman of paec , lifelong friend, munir ahmad khan met salam in oxford. munir ahmad khan, headed nuclear weapons , energy programme, said:



last meeting abdus salam 3 months ago. disease had taken toll , unable talk. yet understood said. told him celebration held in pakistan on seventieth birthday. kept staring @ me. had risen above praise. rose leave pressed hand express feelings if wanted thank had said kind words him. dr. abdus salam had deep love pakistan in spite of fact treated unfairly , indifferently own country. became more , more difficult him come pakistan , hurt him deeply. has returned home finally, rest in peace ever in soil loved much. may in years come rise above our prejudice , own him , give him, after death, not when alive. pakistanis may choose ignore dr. salam, world @ large remember him.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
