since 1983 athabascan fiddle festival or athabascan fiddling festival held annually in november in fairbanks. festival instituted in 1983 alaska state council on arts (asca) , institute of alaska native art , continues vital. festival described testament far-reaching appeal of traditional music , festival features athabaskan , eskimo (yup ik , iñupiaq) fiddlers. when bill stevens returned alaska in 1982, became instrumental in development of festival. continues participate in annual four-day celebration has become major cultural event people of interior.


the november festival carries on tradition of fiddle music bringing bands on state, including few eskimo bands, many of whom save year participate in jubilant event. festival prides on being sober event, people can gather family fun, in safe environment. starting around 2005, festival split 2 venues, 1 featuring faster upriver dances , other slower country-style downriver dances.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
