john womelsdorf founded community in 1762. named middletown, being halfway between cities of lebanon , reading, 50 years later changed womelsdorf in honor of founder.


a pennsylvania state historic site, conrad weiser homestead, located in womelsdorf; site interprets life of conrad weiser, well-known 18th-century german immigrant played major role in history of colonial pennsylvania.


the womelsdorf historic district listed on national register of historic places in 1982.
