healthy, pale pink gums



pale pink: healthy color of gums, indicates circulation. may brighten after strenuous work due increase in circulation.
very pale pink: due contracted capillaries. may indicate anemia, fever, or blood loss.
pale blue, gray, or whitish: indicative of anemia (low red blood cell count). may indicate severe shock or illness. serious sign; best option call veterinarian.
yellow tinge of brown: indicates jaundice , liver failure. serious , veterinarian should see animal immediately.
yellowish: bright yellow tinge may occur if horse has high levels of beta-carotene in diet, such horses eat deal of alfalfa hay. not indicate serious problem.
dark red: indicates enlarged capillaries, due poisoning or severe dehydration. veterinarian should contacted immediately.
