peroorthodu (kottappadi)
peroorthodu stream first stop on path, 4 km (2.5 mi) erumely. devotees took bath here , kanniayyappas offers malarpodi , aripodi before journey.
kalaketty
kalaketty situated 6 km perurthodu. according legends, lord shiva came on ox , tied banyan tree witness killing of demoness mahishi beloved son, ayyappa. there shrine here dedicated lord shiva , pilgrims burn camphor , break coconuts part of rituals.
azhutha
azhutha, tributary of pamba river 2 km kalaketty. in sanskrit, azhutha termed alamba. pilgrims have facilities take rest here. there temple here administrated malayaraya mahasabha , has administrative controls of kalaketty, inchippara , mukkuzhy temples. far river side known azhutha medu steep slope.
kallidamkunnu
the steep azhutha medu ends @ summit kallidamkunnu. part of customs, devotees took pebble azhutha river drop @ kallidamkunnu cover remains of mahishi. devotees burns camphor here before journey.
inchipparakotta
the place got name due presence of fort built udaya. there temple here named kottayil sastha temple, dedicated inchippara moopan, guardian of sacred forests.
