upon completing ph.d., kelsey joined university of chicago faculty. in 1942, many other pharmacologists, kelsey looking synthetic cure malaria. result of these studies, kelsey learned drugs able pass through placental barrier. while there met fellow faculty member dr. fremont ellis kelsey, whom married in 1943.
while on faculty @ university of chicago, kelsey awarded m.d. during 1950. supplemented teaching work editorial associate american medical association journal 2 years. kelsey left university of chicago in 1954, decided take position teaching pharmacology @ university of south dakota, , moved husband , 2 daughters vermillion, south dakota, taught until 1957.
she became dual citizen of canada , united states in 1950s in order continue practicing medicine in u.s., retained strong ties canada continued visit siblings regularly until late in life.
