marriage

george sassoon (1936–2006), married 4 times: firstly stephanie munro, @ inverness in 1955 (dissolved 1961); secondly marguerite dicks in 1961 (dissolved 1974); thirdly susan christian-howard in 1975 (dissolved 1982); , lastly alison pulvertaft.
george became scientist, linguist , author, , adored siegfried, wrote several poems addressed him. however, marriage broke down after second world war, sassoon apparently unable find compromise between solitude enjoyed , companionship craved.
separated wife in 1945, sassoon lived in seclusion @ heytesbury in wiltshire, although maintained contact circle included e m forster , j r ackerley. 1 of closest friends cricketer, dennis silk later became warden (headmaster) of radley college. formed close friendship vivien hancock, headmistress of greenways school @ ashton gifford, son george pupil. relationship provoked hester make strong accusations against hancock, responded threat of legal action.
religion
towards end of life, sassoon converted roman catholicism. had hoped ronald knox, roman catholic priest , writer whom admired, instruct him in faith, knox ill so. priest sebastian moore chosen instruct him instead, , sassoon admitted faith @ downside abbey in somerset. paid regular visits nuns @ stanbrook abbey, , abbey press printed commemorative editions of of poems. during time became interested in supernatural, , joined ghost club.
