as ambassador russian chess, chigorin shining example; gave many lectures, wrote magazine articles , chess columns , subsidised or otherwise supported number of periodicals keep them afloat despite low readership levels. founded chess club in saint petersburg , tried many years establish chess association, attempt succeeded few years after death.


according canadian international master lawrence day, chigorin travelled young fedor bogatyrchuk russian events in 1905-1907 period, helping train him. after moving canada following world war ii, bogatyrchuk trained day.


in 1907, chigorin failed badly in chess tournament. not in health , diagnosed doctors in carlsbad advanced , untreatable case of diabetes. prompted prediction had months live, whereupon returned estranged wife , daughter in lublin , died following january. in 1909, chigorin memorial tournament played in st. petersburg. after many more followed: 1947 onwards in sochi , 1990 in saint petersburg.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
