an old sign, before stolen.

the hamlet s name has resulted in sign repeatedly being stolen (a fate similar of fucking, austria), requiring costly replacements acquired each time, increasing reluctance of local council. ian ventham, chairman of bere regis parish council, put it:

in 2010, inhabitants banded purchase 1.5-ton block of purbeck stone place @ entrance shitterton, carved hamlet s name. more half of 50 households chipped in £20 each , further £70 contributed purbeck district council. truck , crane hired volunteers put stone in place, @ total cost of £680. ian ventham explained: thought, let s put in ton , half of stone , see them try , take away in of ford fiesta .
