career

makau attended unyuani school until 1999, after joined kyeni academy, misiani. started running in 2001. competed @ 2006 iaaf world road running championships , finished in 26th place.


he finished second @ 2007 ras al khaimah half marathon running 59:13 minutes, being beaten samuel wanjiru set world record (58:53) @ same race. won silver @ 2007 iaaf world road running championships , 2008 iaaf world half marathon championships. part of kenyan team won team race both times.


he won @ city-pier-city loop in 2008. makau won 2009 ras al khaimah half marathon setting second best ever half marathon time 58:52. world record @ time, 58:33, held samuel wanjiru. made marathon debut @ 2009 rotterdam marathon, finishing fourth , setting fast time (2:06:14 hours), short of fastest marathon debut, set evans rutto @ 2003 chicago marathon (2:05:50 hours).


makau returned hague city-pier-city loop in 2010 , won second time, clocking sub-one hour time of 59:52. after improved marathon best 2:04:48 win rotterdam marathon, becoming fourth fastest runner on history of distance. opted stay away circuit , focus himself entirely on preparations berlin marathon. rematch rotterdam runner-up geoffrey mutai saw 2 take same positions again. rain dampened prospect of record makau out-sprinted mutai @ finish clock 2:05:08 , win first world marathon major. in recognition of performances year, selected aims world athlete of year in poll of race organisers.


makau ran in 2011 london marathon and, in spite of fall @ halfway point, continued , narrowly beaten third @ line martin lel, finishing time of 2:05:45.

at berlin marathon on 25 september 2011, makau set duel against haile gebrselassie, world record holder ethiopia. kenyan dropped more experienced rival after halfway point , went on finish in world record time of 2:03:38 (an average pace of 4:42.9 per mile), beating existing record 21 seconds. prior race, stated wanted bring marathon world record kenya, following on former record holder paul tergat. speaking after race, makau said in morning body not after started race, started reacting well. started thinking record , @ 32 km thought win race , break world record. hard [over] last 10 kilometres . world record performance remained 2 years before falling fellow kenyan, wilson kipsang kiprotich, @ 2013 berlin marathon, when record lowered 15 seconds time of 2:03:23.


2012 season

he pre-race favourite granollers half marathon in february, lost in sprint finish carles castillejo under cold weather conditions. ran @ 2012 london marathon dropped out mid-race due injury , not selected olympic team. entered great manchester run in may , came fifth in time of 28:21 minutes. in frankfurt marathon in october, despite feeling uncomfortable , running of time @ of leading group, makau managed take lead deressa chimsa , holding on victory, time of 2:06:08.


2013 season

makau raced in 2013 london marathon. showed in poor form, having been outside lead pack first time point @ 5km, falling farther , farther behind every time point until 40km. halfway, 3 minutes behind leaders, slowed further , finished race in 2:14:10, outside top 10, more 8 minutes winner, , more 10 minutes own world record.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
