great britain , turkey disputed control of former ottoman province of mosul in 1920s. under 1923 treaty of lausanne mosul fell under british mandate of mesopotamia, new turkish republic claimed province part of historic heartland. three-person league of nations committee went region in 1924 study case , in 1925 recommended region remain connected iraq, , uk should hold mandate 25 years, assure autonomous rights of kurdish population. turkey rejected decision. nonetheless, britain, iraq , turkey made treaty on 5 june 1926, followed decision of league council. mosul stayed under british mandate of mesopotamia until iraq granted independence in 1932 urging of king faisal, though british retained military bases , transit rights forces in country.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
