the station went on air wbhd on september 4, 1998. on october 15, 1998, station changed call sign wjnz flipping urban contemporary format 1680 jamz, giving grand rapids first 24-hour urban station @ time, call letters , format on 1140.


on june 16, 2003, station changed call letters wdss , placed radio disney format on frequency. station poorly maintained during radio disney years station ids mixed , no id heard @ top of hour.


on august 7, 2008, wdss discontinued radio disney format, switching continuous-loop announcement, announcing changeover new public reality radio format in september. announcement mentioned station s call sign change on wprr on august 18 (the new calls took effect august 20). according station owner bob goodrich, public reality radio non-profit, educational endeavor, featuring variety of podcasts , programming. on september 22, 2008, public reality radio launched, includes programming pacifica radio network.

Sovereign Building Zollinger-Harned Company Building

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
