history
2002–07: formation , hold colour

before pendulum, rob swire , gareth mcgrillen in multiple rock , metal music bands before swire influenced mcgrillen producing electronic music on computers. harding had been drummer in punk band since mid 1990s. both bands had played @ same shows, did not meet until drum , bass night in 2002. had passion electronic music , formed pendulum, incorporating previous influences of rock , metal music previous projects.

pendulum began career in perth, western australia trio of djs. harding had been active in perth drum , bass scene time, djing under name el hornet . swire , mcgrillen had played friends parties, djing computers. swire , mcgrillen wanted start record label , release songs on it. 1 evening meant play dj set on perth producers night @ drumclub, swire s hard drive failed. harding offered play music instead received well. sat down each other , decided produce music under name pendulum.

the first track trio produced vault , released in 2003 on 31 records great acclaim within uk drum , bass scene. @ moment residing in perth, felt isolated drum , bass community. once fellow drum , bass artist dj fresh offered them free accommodation in london flat 8 months, decided move england.

the band recorded , released spiral / ulterior motive same year, , in 2004 made first compilation appearance on jungle sound: bassline strikes back! , several songs featured , harding in charge of mixing album s second disc. band offered album deal breakbeat kaos, fresh label, resulted in debut album hold colour in 2005. album charted in both united kingdom , in australia , certified golden album in australia.

following success of 2005 debut album, label breakbeat kaos re-issued compilation under name jungle sound gold, front saying mixed pendulum . band disapproved of had neither given permission nor been informed release, , pendulum later ended leaving label.

in 2006, trio became sextet after introducing ben mount mc, peredur ap gwynedd guitarist , paul kodish drummer. @ time mcgrillen began playing bass guitar @ live shows , on studio recordings.

2007–09: in silico , live @ brixton academy

their second album, in silico, released on 12 may 2008. release contained different sounds compared debut album contained more rock elements whilst maintaining electronic elements. response change relatively positive critics said dated guardian. album relatively successful charted @ 2 on uk albums chart , @ 9 in australian albums chart. album reached no. 16 on billboard s top electronic albums chart in united states. after release of album, paul kodish, unknown reasons, left band, making him first official former member of band. in november 2008, 3 songs album in silico used in soundtrack of need speed: undercover. song tarantula featured in video game motorstorm: pacific rift.

at end of year band filmed live dvd on 4 , 5 december 2008, @ brixton academy. released on 17 april 2009.

2009–11: immersion


live, melbourne 2010

pendulum once again toured europe in 2009. during tour announced working on third studio album, immersion. announced in december 2009 pendulum touring new album in may 2010. release date of album announced sometime in may during live preview party @ matter, , announced released on 24 may. pendulum previewed album immersion @ ear storm night @ london’s matter nightclub on friday 22 january. salt in wounds , track new album, zane lowe s hottest record in world on bbc radio 1 on 25 january 2010. on zane lowe s show, announced wanted join band , first single new album called watercolour . single received first play on zane lowe s bbc radio 1 show on 8 march 2010, , single of week week. in december 2010, watercolour found featured in soundtrack of 2010 hit game need speed: hot pursuit . on 1 april, music video salt in wounds released. video unique in is, according band s website, ...the world’s first 360° interactive music video. in december 2010, watercolour found featured in soundtrack of 2010 hit game need speed: hot pursuit .

watercolour claimed no.4 spot in uk singles chart, making biggest hit date. on 21 may 2010, band headlined annual radio 1 s big weekend festival held @ vaynol estate, bangor, gwynedd. second single album, witchcraft , released on 18 july , charted @ no.29 in uk singles chart, making third highest charted single in uk. third single immersion island , , missed uk top 40 @ no. 41.

rob swire had stated if had achieved greater success witchcraft , have released song entitled ransom , taken off immersion before album s release. swire revealed original files ransom corrupted, , has no plans recreate them, therefore not released. however, on 6 april 2011, pendulum released ransom single via website proceeds going japan fund after tsunami. crush released fourth single in january 2011. in january 2011, pendulum released deluxe edition of immersion via itunes contained album s original 15 tracks , collection of remixes of watercolour , witchcraft , island other artists including deadmau5, tiësto , chuckie. both uk , store given music videos of 3 tracks in release.

2011–15: progression, hiatus , possible new album

on 26 october 2010, swire announced new record in works. new record set heavily punk influenced. next album expected significant departure usage of drum , bass tempo, faster tempo in form of punk, , slower tempo in form of dubstep.

on 29 march 2011, swire revealed there no new album while. added there def new material later in year.

pendulum opened linkin park on several selected dates during band s 2011 thousand suns north american tour. headlined own tour supported innerpartysystem.

in 2011 rob swire , fellow member gareth mcgrillen announced in various interviews project called knife party had been created. side project not linked in means pendulum , consists of electro house, dubstep , other club genres. knife party has since become duo s primary project.

pendulum played @ 2011 download festival, oxegen, eden sessions, glastonbury festival, t in park, , v festival, headlined global gathering, exclusive london show @ south west 4 , headlined first night of bestival on isle of wight.

pendulum headlined @ rhythm & vines 2011 in gisborne, new zealand. band took break touring in 2012 in order take part in side projects.

pendulum 1 of headliners on main stage line-up @ lovevolution 2011 dance festival & parade in oakland, california, had on 50 djs , 15 or more parade floats.

on 3 january 2012, pendulum announced taking hiatus touring while thanking fans last several years. went on state might create new record in 2013. swire stated pendulum on hiatus, knife party primary project.

on 16 june 2012, rob swire announced there no further pendulum live shows , there no plans new album in 2013. although there no live shows taking place in near future according band, el hornet & mc verse still perform dj sets across world.

on 22 august 2013, in series of tweets, revealed along knife party album, possible pendulum album may released in 2014. el-hornet, dj sets, confirmed album in speech @ 9:30 club in washington dc , said don t rush . however, possibility of pendulum performing live again has still been ruled out. on 13 july 2014, swire stated work on new pendulum album begin around september , released 2015.

on 16 december 2014, knife party did ama on reddit fans inquired duo how pendulum album coming along. rob swire stated that, although aren t working on yet, have old material previous albums can re-worked , finished new, however, different previous work pendulum have done far. rob swire stated didn t want make new pendulum album rather work on else knife party or create new project altogether, 1 can have control of, since lost heart project , having no real desire make drum , bass anymore , fusing rock, ruled out live band tour , gave no further details on release dates.

2015–present: hold colour 10th anniversary, reunion , new album

on 20 july 2015, 10-year anniversary of release of hold colour, rob swire took pendulum twitter page celebrate, thanking fans support , changing profile picture of birthday cake underneath pendulum logo in original font. on 26 july 2015, rob uploaded 2 videos personal twitter page of old pendulum studio files playing on computer.

on 22 august 2015, rob swire , gareth mcgrillen joined el hornet , ben verse onstage @ v festival in hylands park, essex pendulum dj set. marks first time either of members have performed under pendulum name in 4 years. rob later tweeted after performance experience fun, , weird.

on 16 december 2015, announced pendulum reunite live band @ 2016 ultra music festival in miami, florida. band closed music festival latter half of joined performance knife party. first live performance of band without mc ben verse. band performed new live versions of songs such deadmau5 s ghosts n stuff, deadmau5 himself performing live alongside band, , knife party s begin again.

on 16 december 2016, pendulum confirmed performing live act @ nova rock festival 2017. band posted image facebook page teasing possible return in 2017.

pendulum performed in hometown perth ring in new year @ 10 year anniversary of origin nye festival.

on 9 january 2017, unveiled via youtube channel pendulum officially returning. on 13 january, pendulum officially announced on website possible london tour/album release may happening in summer 2017. in march 2017, band further announced performances @ ultra singapore, nova rock festival in austria , volt festival in hungary, ultra korea in june 2017. band performed headline set @ nass festival 2017. in august 2017, band performed @ south west 4 festival in clapham common, london.

on 10 august 2017, rob swire announced making new pendulum album. band departed label warner music uk opting own label, earstorm in order more creative control.

on 2nd of september pendulum headlined first day of weekender festival in jersey, channel islands. ended summer tour @ ultra japan on 18 september 2017. pendulum scheduled play @ snowbombing festival in 2018, confirming live band continue play in 2018.

throughout 2017 el hornet started performing dj sets without ben verse. of october 2017 appears no longer member of pendulum.
