biography

ilse annoeska de lange born on may 13, 1977 in almelo, netherlands. started career @ age of 8 lip-synching artist, won several contests. delange drew greater attention after switching live repertoire in both regional , national talent shows in hilversum (dutch city tv-programs recorded). helped book live-performances on national television. formed duo guitarist joop van liefland, introduced country music.

in 1994, delange performed @ dutch country music awards. despite positive reviews, nothing happened career. did in touch representatives of warner music took several years of negotiation before decided offer contract. same year, participated in zangfestival der onbekenden ( song contest of unknown ) in dutch city of eindhoven. implementation of daddy s hands holly dunn , song remembers when trisha yearwood, won contest , got opportunity record demo. in 1996, delange drew attention a&r-manager of dutch record company bmi music, henk-jan smits. persuaded join occasional popgroup wij , released single de oorlog meegemaakt ( experienced war ). single did not chart dutch top 40.

1998-1999: breakthrough world of hurt , dear john

in 1998 while being member of group cash on delivery, traveled nashville, u.s. record debut album world of hurt top producer barry beckett. became known in netherlands, because album recorded in capital of country music. partly because of that, debut single m not tough charted , peaked @ #35 in dutch top 40. album received big success in home country, going 5x platinum. in netherlands, ilse received tmf award , edison award musical success in 1999. although album huge success, next singles world of hurt, d yours , when don t talk didn t chart. unfortunately world of hurt wasn t released in states, despite interest due guest vocals vince gill, , ilse s cover of beth nielsen chapman s song world of hurt , , patty larkin s song lonely .

a year after delange released live-album dear john, album full of covers john hiatt, after successful performance @ marlboro flashbacks . tobacco brand marlboro organised tour in manner of promotion , asked famous dutch singers cover favourite artist. went on mini-tour in support of album, lasted several months during 1999. album went platinum in netherlands (with sales of 80,000 copies).

2000-2002: livin on love , fatigue

rumours of new album heard mid-2000. first single of album, livin on love (written craig fuller , gary nicholson), released in october , peaked @ #37 in dutch top 40. november saw release of sophomore studio album livin on love, musical departure debut, leaning more toward pop/rock. country music-scene wasn t excited album. although there amount of promotion album, not compete success of world of hurt, hitting peak @ #5 still going platinum. second single still cry didn t chart. in 2001 delange started livin on love tour, performing in many theaters , concert halls throughout home country.

meanwhile, warner music attempted promote release breakthrough release in united states. although world of hurt planned released in states, record labels in america thought album old-fashioned 0 s. ilse set hopes on release of livin on love , once again album not released unknown reasons. there rumours american label didn t pop/rock-sound of album. due business problems , heavy tour schedule, delange became physically exhausted. during performance in paradiso, (amsterdam), experienced vocal problems , emotionally told fans couldn t continue performance. on doctor s advice took few weeks rest.

2003: clean , small decline in success

in 2002, delange , partner bart vergoossen, drummer of live band, went america 9 months work on new album. during recording sessions delange took greater creative role in music, including receiving songwriting credit entire album. writing on autobiographical. in april 2003 released clean up, third studio album. album continued pop/rock-sound experimented on livin on love. album debuted @ #1 in charts , got certified gold. despite success, first single no reason shy commercial failure , record company decided not release further singles, rather focus on compilation album. album released in october of same year , called here am. album spawned 2 singles, wouldn t , answers, both commercial failure.

2004–2007: search new record company , great escape

at beginning of 2004, dutch section of record company warner music disbanded , ilse lost contract. few months later, collaborated on song blue italian singer zucchero. song moderate success in netherlands, reaching #23 in dutch top 40. there no information new record deal, ilse stated working on future.

in end of 2005 went on tour, without releasing new album or having record company. every concert sold out. began working producer patrick leonard on new album, helped signing new record deal. later year, confirmed ilse signed new contract universal music.

her first release on new label single great escape, peaking @ #11 in dutch top 40. fourth studio album great escape, released on june 16, 2006. went gold week after release , went 2x platinum months later. in september second single lonely 1 released, peaked @ #12 in single top 100. third single, love you, released in february 2007 , peaked @ #23 in dutch top 40. song included on soundtrack dutch movie adaptation of steel magnolias. song reach light released promo-only single, nevertheless charted @ #51. in october 2007 released live album, called live.

2008–2010: incredible , next me ep

in 2008 ilse stated writing , recording new album in swedish city gothenburg. before that, went england work same songwriters working on debut album of james morrison. first single of forthcoming album incredible, peaked @ #6. album incredible released @ october 17, 2008 , went platinum in less month. got 5x platinum. next single miracle came biggest hit date, reaching top spot of dutch top 40. written title track dutch movie bride flight. third single puzzle me peaked @ #5 , radio-only release re alright peaked @ #21, in spite of not being released single.

after releasing live album, ilse went on , started working on new material. single next me released in july, 2010 , reached #9-spot. first ep next me, released @ august 27, 2010. album included 8 tracks, ilse explaining ...she wanted release new material more often, due heavy touring schedule , contractual obligations didn t have time record whole album . second single beautiful distraction charted @ #18 , third single carousel peaked @ #32. in 2011, next me has been certified 2x platinum.

2011–2012: shelved album doluv2luvu , eye of hurricane

in november 2011 delange released new single doluv2luvu. song theme song of serious request 2011, big charity-event held yearly dutch radio station 3fm. while promoting single, delane heard father incurably ill. stopped kinds of promotion , postponed recording process of new album doluv2luvu. though song wasn t promoted, still charted @ #14. day after father s death, @ january 10, 2012, posted acoustic version of song without on twitter, featured on 2007 live album. later year, ilse revealed doluv2luvu-album shelved , started recording new album. because didn t feel flow of album anymore after father had died. doesn t rule out possibility s going released in future. in june 2012, first single sophomore album, hurricane released. charted @ #23 in dutch top 40. seventh album eye of hurricane, released september 14, 2012 , got platinum in few weeks. second single winter of love rose #20 , third single 1 got #33.

2013-present: voice of holland , common linnets

in 2013, delange replaced nick & simon coach on voice of holland fourth season alongside marco borsato, trijntje oosterhuis , ali b (who replaced roel van velzen). when live shows started, delange released second compilation album, called after hurricane. first single blue bittersweet written soundtrack dutch movie het diner ( dinner ) , charted #8.

delange represented netherlands, singer waylon common linnets, during eurovision song contest 2014 in copenhagen, denmark. took second place after winner conchita wurst austria. returned voice of holland coach fifth season in august. on january 15, 2015, announced delange replaced coach sixth season of voice of holland miss montreal. delange decided wanted spend more time on international career common linnets. however, announced new coach fifth season of voice kids, replacing angela groothuizen.
