the nyw&b route began @ harlem river station @ 132nd street , willis avenue. elevated shuttle , later covered walkway linked 129th street (irt third avenue line) station of second , third avenue elevated trains of new york city transit system , later irt subway line. nyw&b s tracks ran parallel nh s tracks, serving 4 stations served new haven commuter service, south of 180th street, site of company s headquarters, shops, , yard, , major transfer point new york city subway. 180th street railroad ran on own four-track right of way, serving 6 stations in bronx , 3 in mount vernon before routes divided @ columbus avenue.


from there, 1 line ran north, 1 more station in mount vernon , stations @ chester heights in eastern eastchester, wykagyl , quaker ridge in northern new rochelle, heathcote @ border of northern new rochelle , eastern scarsdale, ridgeway, gedney way , mamaroneck avenue stations in white plains, , white plains terminal on eastern edge of downtown @ westchester avenue , bloomingdale road.


the other line went east fifth avenue station in north pelham, pelhamwood station on new rochelle/ pelham border, , remington, north avenue , pine brook stations in central new rochelle. route ran on own tracks on nh line new rochelle, east of nh s new rochelle station. line served same stations nh between new rochelle , port chester , larchmont gardens station in larchmont , west street station in harrison.

proposed extensions

in initial 1906 plans railroad, branch elmsford planned, diverging white plains branch near latter s northern end in vicinity of mamaroneck avenue station, striking out in northwesterly direction through city of white plains, crossing on harlem division of new york central (nyc) near latter s white plains station, , paralleling tarrytown road elmsford border. however, after new village of elmsford (incorporated in 1910 town of greenburgh) voted against nyw&b s presence on esthetic grounds, dropped further consideration.


another nh interests company, westchester northern railroad (wn), chartered in 1910 build northward extension of nyw&b white plains pound ridge, 1 branch danbury, connecticut , 1 brewster, new york. nyw&b white plains terminal built extension in mind. wn consolidated nyw&b on june 8, 1915. activity limited acquiring real estate right of way, on no significant construction seems have taken place. wn project officially cancelled 1925 , property gradually sold off.


the harlem board of commerce proposed new connection built extend nyw&b harlem river terminal underground through new tunnel under harlem river , 125th street, connecting eighth avenue line of independent subway (ind) under construction. nothing ever came of proposal.


the nyw&b crossed new haven @ joint station @ columbus avenue in mount vernon. ramp new haven have permitted nyw&b trains run directly grand central terminal (gct): provisions such ramp designed overpass, no track connection constructed. nh have discouraged running trains gct, since paid rental fee nyc each movement terminal.
