guadalupe has rugged landscape. consists of 2 ancient overlapping shield volcanoes, of northern , higher volcano younger. island measures 35 kilometres (22 mi) north-south , 9.5 kilometres (5.9 mi) east-west, total area of 243.988 km (94.204 sq mi). features chain of high volcanic mountain ridges rises height of 1,298 metres (4,259 ft) @ northern end (mount augusta). smaller counterpart on southern end 975 metres (3,199 ft) el picacho. southern part of island barren, there fertile valleys , trees in northern part. coast consists of rocky bluffs detached rocks fronting of them. 2 high , prominent islets within 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) of southwestern end of island, separated 1 gap called tuna alley:

climate

the island has 2 major climate zones: arid, semi-hot climate between 0 , 800 metres (0 , 2,625 feet) elevation, mean annual temperature between 18 , 22 °c (64 , 72 °f) , arid, temperate climate above 800 metres (2,600 ft) elevation temperatures on 22 °c (72 °f) in hottest month of year.


most precipitation occurs on winter months strong influence of northwestern winds , cyclones.


rainfall averages 133 millimetres (5.2 in) near sea level @ south end appears more @ high north end. estimate rainfall in northern highlands possible way of taking pinus radiata indicator, native area of island. other places pinus radiata native, grows best 750 millimetres (30 in) of rainfall under conditions can survive little half much. effective moisture, of course, greater because of fog drip.
