at berlin marathon on 25 september 2011, makau set duel against haile gebrselassie, world record holder ethiopia. kenyan dropped more experienced rival after halfway point , went on finish in world record time of 2:03:38 (an average pace of 4:42.9 per mile), beating existing record 21 seconds. prior race, stated wanted bring marathon world record kenya, following on former record holder paul tergat. speaking after race, makau said in morning body not after started race, started reacting well. started thinking record , @ 32 km thought win race , break world record. hard [over] last 10 kilometres .


his world record performance remained 2 years before falling fellow kenyan, wilson kipsang kiprotich, @ 2013 berlin marathon, when record lowered 15 seconds time of 2:03:23.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
