wheatley drafted new england patriots in second round (62nd overall) in 2008 nfl draft, , signed them on july 22, 2008. rookie, wheatley debuted in first week of season against kansas city, , played in 6 of first 7 games reserve. in first career start against indianapolis colts on november 2 suffered wrist injury forced him placed on injured reserve on november 17, after being inactive team s following 2 games. finished season 2 tackles , 2 passes defensed.


wheatley active 5 games in 2009, reserve. finished season 2 tackles.


after suffering foot injury in 2010 preseason, wheatley did not practice or play first 5 weeks of regular season; however, remained inactive in weeks 6 , 7 after returning practice in week 6. active first time in 2010, did not play in patriots week 8 win on minnesota vikings. waived following saturday, in advance of team s week 9 game against cleveland browns.


jacksonville jaguars

after clearing waivers, wheatley signed two-year contract jacksonville jaguars on november 8, 2010. played in 1 game jaguars before being placed on injured reserve on december 17, 2010. waived during final cuts in september 2011.

wheatley signed buffalo bills practice squad on september 13, 2011. promoted active roster on september 27.
