northeast portland contains diverse collection of neighborhoods. example, while irvington , alameda ridge feature of oldest , expensive homes in portland, nearby king more working-class neighborhood. because large, northeast portland can divided ethnically, culturally, , geographically inner , outer sections. inner northeast neighborhoods surround martin luther king jr. blvd. once predominantly african american, resembling typical urban inner-city environments found in major u.s. cities. however, demographics changing due process of gentrification. in 2010, king neighborhood 25.9% black or african-american, 41.3% decrease since 2000. inner northeast includes several shopping areas, such lloyd district, alberta arts district (portland, oregon) , hollywood, , part of affluent irvington, alameda, grant park, sullivan s gulch , laurelhurst neighborhoods , nearby developments. city plan targets lloyd district mixed-use area, high-density residential development.


straddling base of borders of north , northeast rose quarter. named after rose garden, home of portland trail blazers (now named moda center), , includes blazers former home, memorial coliseum. coliseum home portland s hockey team, portland winter hawks, of western hockey league, though play @ moda center. newest rose quarter tenants lumberjax of national lacrosse league. city still holds lease land , owns coliseum, moda center , other buildings owned private business interests until went receivership. area quite active during teams home games, , city hopes extend activity promoting major increase in residential units in quarter using zoning , tax incentives.


at base of northeast border meets southeast, area near burnside bridge has been redeveloped bustling nightlife , entertainment district. area features bars chesterfield , music venues doug fir lounge. in 2006, area established enough own nickname: lobu.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
