geiger s history began century ago. w. charles charley geiger sr. s brother howard geiger founded men s clothing business in cleveland in 1918 store near west 75th , detroit avenue in city s detroit-shoreway neighborhood. charley joined brother howard in 1919. howard expanded business, first 8 stores then, in 1928, total of 13 stores, of closed during great depression in 1929–1930.

in 1932 charley geiger sr., in midst of great depression, started own men s clothing establishment, named charley geiger s haberdashery in storefront @ corner of warren rd. , detroit avenue in downtown lakewood, oh. in 1936, moved 3 storefronts east 14710 detroit avenue geiger s main store , headquarters stand today. geiger s, according lakewood post, …a new store, new fixtures, complete stocks of nationally advertised merchandise, , continuation of policies have drastically increased (geiger s) business.

Sovereign Building Zollinger-Harned Company Building

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
