located on site of former naval air station, duncanville, mission provide radar coverage of dallas-fort worth area, 745th aircraft control , warning squadron began operating an/cps-6b , an/fps-10 radar @ site on 1 february 1953, , station functioned ground-control intercept (gci) , warning station. gci station, squadron s role guide interceptor aircraft toward unidentified intruders picked on unit s radar scopes. in 1958 height-finder radar replaced an/fps-6.


on july 17, 1957, afs, along 2 other stations in other states helped track unexplained object following rb-47 air force radar reconnaissance jet more 90 minutes. 2 planes air base dispatched well. object never identified, , no explanation ever concluded.


in 1959, united states army opened army air-defense command post df-30dc nike missile air-defense system, dallas-fort worth defense area in 1959. duncanville incorporated buic i, manual back-up interceptor control system implemented in 1962. buic provided limited command , control capability in event sage system disabled.


duncanville afs closed on july 1, 1964, when 745th radar squadron transferred perrin afs, tx (rp-78). army nike operations ended in 1969. after closure, navy took on housing units naval air station dallas. 3 acres deeded city of duncanville in late 1998 development of new swimming pool, landscaped walkway, jogging trail, park entrance , expanded parking.
