the volkstaat proposed freedom front


the freedom front has been major political driving force formation of volkstaat. afrikaner-focused political party has representation in national parliament several provincial legislatures in south africa. support party has decreased under 140,000 votes, being less 1% of total votes cast (approximately 20% among registered afrikaner voters) 2004 national elections. freedom front advocates following belgian, canadian , spanish models of granting territorial autonomy linguistic minorities, believing way protect rights of afrikaner people. under policy, proposes creation of afrikaner homeland, comprising area lies in north western cape between west coast , orange river.


the afrikaner weerstandsbeweging made headlines in march 2008 re-activation , plans of establishing independent boer state. plans include demand land, such stellaland , goshen, claim legally theirs in terms of sand river convention of 1852 , other historical treaties, through international court of justice in hague if necessary.

one volkstaat attempt small town of orania in northern cape province. land on orania built privately owned, , afrikaners have been encouraged promoters of volkstaat concept move orania, although small number has responded, resulting in population of 519 in 2001, 10 years after being established. support orania seems growing recent economic boom . today, orania home 1300 afrikaners has approximately 5000 uitwoners or ex-inhabitants part of orania movement. orania petitioning government become separate municipality , in meantime (transitional) representative council remain in place indefinitely powers, rights , duties.


kleinfontein

another attempt settlement of kleinfontein outside pretoria (in tshwane metropolitan area). kleinfontein falls within metropolitan area of tshwane. in 2013 tshwane recognized kleinfontein cultural community.

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
