childhood , education

tibor pusztai born in budapest, hungary on december 23rd, 1946 marie a. piff , tibor g. pusztai. during hungarian revolution in 1956, obligated flee home country father. lived , worked throughout north , south america, becoming american citizen. considered child prodigy, pusztai began performing violinist , violist age. studied @ juilliard school of music , new england conservatory of music (nec).


career

as violinist, pusztai performed boston string quartet, created incentive rudolf kolisch become head of chamber music department @ new england conservatory in boston. performed juilliard string orchestra, new jersey symphony orchestra, , berkshire music center orchestra. pusztai second violin in original formation of new england ragtime ensemble, created in 1972 gunther schuller. ensemble’s performance of “the red book” earned grammy award best chamber music performance in 1974.


as composer, tibor pusztai won 1970 koussevitzky award in composition @ tanglewood music center , american society of composers, authors , publishers (ascap) award. conductor, pusztai directed ballet der deutshche oper berlin, xantener sommerfestsplielen, alvin ailey dance company, american ballet theatre , iranian national ballet. conductor of hartford chamber orchestra, hartford ballet , associate conductor of hartford symphony orchestra. furthermore, served music director manchester symphony , connecticut valley chamber orchestras, , president of connecticut composers, new voices productions , studio of electronic music. pusztai s recordings released both columbia , angel labels.


pusztai faculty member @ tanglewood music center, nec, ithaca college, tehran university of art, hartford conservatory , berklee college of music. during years @ nec, served gunther schuller’s assistant. joined berklee faculty in 1996, teaching numerous classes, including conducting, scoring strings, traditional harmony , composition, , directed studies.


personal life , death

at time of death, pusztai married son previous marriage. during life lived , worked in numerous places, between united states, europe , middle east. in 2005 moved mount desert island wife, remained until death. on january 10 2016, pusztai died cardiac arrest.

Sovereign Building Zollinger-Harned Company Building

the sovereign building in 2011 the whitehall mall store sold leh s department store, several years flagship store on hamilton street in allentown remained vacant. added national register of historic places in 1979. in december 1982 allentown store purchased sovereign realty , development. building renovated , reopened sovereign building in may 1984. renovations included glass-arched entrance pedestrian plaza between hamilton , court streets leading grapefruit-domed lobby decor of antique brass, mirrors, greenery , wing-backed chairs. main floor , basement developed retail spaces, while upper floors turned 42 private office suites. sovereign later went financial difficulties , building sold @ sheriffs sale on 22 september 1989. today building operated office building owner resides in philadelphia.
