the mars orbiter mission, called mangalyaan launched on 5 november 2013 indian space research organisation (isro). india s first interplanetary mission making isro fourth space agency reach mars, after soviet space program, nasa, , european space agency , first asian nation reach mars orbit, , first nation on first attempt.
chandrayaan-1
on 18 november 2008, moon impact probe released chandrayaan-1 @ height of 100 km (62 mi). during 25-minute decent, chandra s altitudinal composition explorer (chace) recorded evidence of water in 650 mass spectra readings gathered during time. on 24 september 2009 science journal reported chandrayaan-1 had detected water ice on moon.
thirty meter telescope
the thirty meter telescope (tmt) planned, eighteen story, astronomical observatory , extremely large telescope built on summit of mauna kea in state of hawaii. tmt designed near-ultraviolet mid-infrared (0.31 28 μm wavelengths) observations, featuring adaptive optics assist in correcting image blur. tmt @ highest altitude of proposed elts. telescope has government-level support several r&d spending nations: china, japan, canada , india.
