the primary objective of nstc project reduce costs in terms of time , money on traditional route being used. analysts predict having improved transport connectivity between russia, central asia, iran , india respective bilateral trade volumes increase. study conducted federation of freight forwarders’ associations in india (fffai) www.fffai.org found route is, 30% cheaper , 40% shorter current traditional route . analysts predict corridor increase trade connectivity between major cities such mumbai, moscow, tehran, baku, bandar abbas, astrakhan, bandar anzali etc.
history
russia, iran , india signed agreement nstc project on 16th of may 2002. 3 countries founding member states on project. other important member states include azerbaijan, armenia, kazakhstan , belarus other states having varying levels of involvement. azerbaijan heavily involved in project building new train lines , roads complete missing links in nstc. turkmenistan not formal member have road connectivity corridor. prime minister modi during state visit turkmenistan formally invited become member state on project, proposed turkmenistan becomes member of international north south transport corridor.
